Playa Resaca, Culebra PR

Good day from Resaca Beach to you! We have some of the most magical beaches here in Culebra, Puerto Rico, and today we want to share with you how you can reach this spacious hidden gem.

This beach is perfect for exercise, a picnic, the occasional surfing, and ultimate privacy. Being at Resaca beach has an entirely different vibe than the other beaches here in Culebra; with tranquility, this beach will guide you into a zen-like bliss all day. Just wait until you hear the waves here, they're sublime!

A trail hike is involved- declining and inclining. Depending on your athletism it can range from a 15-45 minute hike. You can drive all the way up calle Resaca until you reach a circular parking lot/dead-end; here you will see a sign and a trail to the left of it. When on the trail, always continue straight on it and always listen to the direction of where the waves are coming from- continue towards them. At one point during your hike, you will see the beach in the distance; and at another, you will begin to see the flora change. You should end up arriving at some mangroves prior to arriving at the beach itself. Here, you will see "trash" tied to the trees- these are trail markers, follow them!

It is recommended to wear protective clothing and good pair of hiking/grip shoes for there are thorns and boulders/mud along the way. This is NOT a hike for a rainy day, you will very likely slip! Please be cautious of this, especially for the fact that there is little to no phone service whatsoever! While hiking, the trees will cover you in shade with a gentle breeze, but once at the beach, the sun is a whole other ball game- sunscreen is a MUST here.

With all of this in mind- it is extremely important to bring LOTS of water, and more than you usually would on a hike. With lots of calorie-burning, you will need food to fuel your body as well. We recommend making an event out of this hike and including an easily packable picnic, towels, surf/bodyboards, an umbrella, hats, frisbees/balls, etc!

Since this is not an easily accessible beach, there are no rip current warnings, no lifeguards, and no water safety signs. It is VERY important to be cautious with the Resaca waves for they are stronger than most other beaches here in Culebra. Swimming here is at your own risk and we recommend you educate yourself prior to visiting here.
